Responsible and Mature Students

RFIS believes that students should have opportunities to take responsibility for their own education. Therefore, students are encouraged in keeping with their level of maturity to make decisions related to their own educational programs. Students will have the opportunity to participate in policy development through class or school organizations, such as the Student Council. This offers practice in self-government and serves as a forum for the expression of student ideas. Student opinions are considered in setting policies that directly affect student programs, activities, privileges, and responsibilites.

Critical Thinking

RFIS students are taught to think critically. They are encouraged to apply logical principles, standards of evidence, and careful reasoning to the analysis and discussion of claims, beliefs, and issues. Critical thinking is a mode of cognition that goes beyond wrote memorization. A critical thinker will approach new information with skepticism and intend to discover the truth. In 1 Thessalonians 5:21 we are commanded to "Test everything, hold fast to what is good." At RFIS we hold to the belief that God's word is TRUTH. Proverbs 9:10 (NIV) "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. "
