Goodness Astic

ELL Support

Goodness Astic joined RFIS in August 2016. She joined as the English Language Support’s Specialist, where she works with non-English speakers to ameliorate their language skills in both oral and written. Over the past eight years, she coached football, basketball and volleyball some of the years, filled in roles as History 9 and African Studies teacher. Currently, she serves as the Middle School English and Humanities teacher. Alongside these roles, she works as the English Language Placement Coordinator and Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) Coordinator.

Karl Noren

Sciences

Karl Noren is a nature enthusiast and RFIS alumnus. He began teaching natural and social sciences at RFIS in 2008. Biology, World Geography, and AP Environmental Science are a few of his favorite classes. His degrees and research are in biology, ecology, human-dimensions of wildlife management, and conservation. His hobbies include adventure racing, sports, and gamification of learning for students.

With a B.A. Music from Westmont College, Mary Noren first came to Cameroon in 2001 with ServeGlobally (ECC). Mary teaches music and leads the RFIS student worship team. She married a fellow missionary kid from Congo (DRC) and they have 5 school-age children.

Monica Oakes

Guidance Counselor

Monica Oakes has her Masters of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix, and is ordained through Christians for the Messiah Ministries. She is the mother of 5 and came to Cameroon in 2021 through JAARS as the wife of a helicopter pilot

Sarah McGinnis

Creative Arts

Sarah arrived at RFIS in July of 2021 from the USA via Wycliffe Bible Translators. Her husband, Andrew, is the RFIS chaplain and her 3 year old daughter, Cora, likes to come to school to smile at people and give fist bumps. Sarah has taught elementary grades for 18 years in the States and in Tanzania, East Africa. Art Teacher suits her, as she grew up the child of ceramic artists and art has always been a big part of her life. She especially enjoys painting murals with her students. In addition to teaching art at RFIS, Sarah is a class advisor and travels to a nearby elementary school to teach art there as well.

Jon Milligan

Science/Math

Jon Milligan has been teaching high school science for 8 years. He has experience teaching in a rural public school in Montana prior to teaching at RFIS. He also has a wide variety of experience in a number of different fields like ranch management, firefighting, food chemistry, and youth ministry. Jon grew up as an MK in East Africa. He and his wife, Chelsea, and their four children have been in Cameroon for two years working with SIL and RFIS. Jon has a passion for seeing students experience God in a deeper way and grow in their relationship with HIM, and loves that he can do this hand in hand with teaching them about God's amazing world.

Martin Marara

In August 2023, Mr. Marara joined SIL Cameroon as a volunteer missionary teacher of English and Literature. Having worked in Islamic schools in Mogadishu and Hargeisa, his desire was to serve the Christian community- a spiritual family he could fellowship with. Despite the initial unfamiliarity with missionary life, embracing the call to serve at RFIS has been a transformative and fulfilling experience in every aspect.

I am Dr Lin Bernard NKA. I joined RFIS as a temporary teacher in 2008, then as a permanent teacher in 2012. I have been teaching French 2,3,5,6 and Translation, German, Culture for Christ and African Rhythms in Worship as electives. I have been Assistant Director and Director of Culture, Community and Discipline. I am a pastor a songwriter and a Leadership Trainer. Part of my mission is to help people from differing cultures understand one-another, live and work together with mutual consideration. My wife and I have 5 children, 3 of which are RFIS Alumni, and four grandchildren.

Mr. Mendo is a Cameroonian with an appetite for using science and mathematics to build cool objects and designs. In his free time, he loves being creative and having profound conversations about life. He teaches high school Mathematics and Physics at RFIS.

Guy Serges Noupa Tchakoumegne, French, Spanish and Bible Teacher. Head of World Languages Department and Community Service Coordinator. At RFIS, since July 2009. Parent of a former student, Abigael TCHAKOUMEGNE Who is now student in Canada. Learned from RFIS when I was working with Blind School (CJARC).

My passion for supporting Bible Translation first brought me to Cameroon in 1996. Since then I have filled a variety of roles in SIL, including village literacy worker, language and culture learner, homeschool mom, and for the last 10 years, teacher. Two of my three sons have graduated from RFIS and the third will graduate in 2025. Currently I get to teach 6th grade, helping Cameroonian students transition well to the RFIS educational setting.
